Our town was called Ard Mhic Nasca from the seventh century and means the height of the son of Princess Nasca. Her son was Laisren, patron saint of the town.Later it was called Baile an Daire, town of oaks and this was latinised to Sanctus Boscus by the Anglo-Normans. We have had a branch of the Gaelic League in the town since 1921. Our activities include socialising through Irish, lectures, exhibitions, Irish classes and granting scholarships for young persons and adults to visit the Irish speaking areas of County Donegal. Our members often contribute to the Irish language programmes of the BBC, and on news broadcasts of TG4, the Irish language television channel.
By coincidence Nasc means a Link and the plural is Nasca, so some Links to other sites are included on this page.
